CONTEXT OF THE PROPOSALS
PLANNING CONTEXT
The land at Mundon Road was put forward as a site for a potential residential development in Maldon District Council’s Local Plan that was adopted in 2017. When the Plan was considered by a Planning Inspector, as is required before it can be formally adopted, the Inspector recommended that the site be removed and that the Council should consider it’s future separate to the Local Plan.
Essex Housing are now working with the Council on this process, and have had extensive discussions with officers about the potential for the site to provide new conventional and specialist housing.
SITE ACCESSIBILITY AND ACCESS TO LOCAL AMENITIES
The land at Mundon Road is a sustainable site with good access and walking/cycling routes to local amenities in Maldon including Promenade Park and other open spaces, and the town centre.
HELPING PLUME ACADEMY TO GROW
Plume Academy has had detailed plans in place to expand both campuses for over eight years now. These were initially designed and agreed by all associated stakeholders to cater for the increased demand for places which started in 2016 and has only continued to rise ever since. Therefore, looking forward, without this expansion there will remain insufficient secondary school places in Maldon.
The academy secured £11.1m from Essex County Council for the planned development across both campuses with the sale of Primrose Meadow providing the necessary additional funds to complete this meticulously planned project.
"For several years, the academy worked diligently to ensure we secured an established, reputable and community-minded partner to take this necessary sale forward. In Essex Housing we strongly believe we now have this partner"
